With so much information about cleaning and caring for granite countertops it’s easy to get overwhelmed on what are the best practices. We’re going to discuss just a few tips many may find helpful for caring for their granite countertops.
Mix warm water and liquid dish detergent for an easy cleaning solution that won’t damage your countertops finish
70% Isopropyl alcohol can be added to your countertop cleaning regimen for added disinfecting power.
Keep your countertops sealed properly to ensure the granite will not soak up oils, spills, and stains. To decide if your granite is well sealed, place a few drops of water on the surface. If it beads up, your granite is well sealed for now, but it is important to check regularly.
Don’t use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as they will deteriorate the seal and the finish on the countertops. Windex, bleach, or any acidic cleaners should be avoided as should any type of coarse cleaning pads.
To remove stains from granite, make a paste of baking soda and water. Carefully scrub the spot with the paste and a soft cloth preferably microfiber. Depending on the stain this may take several treatments.
